City of Strata: An Exploration

The grand engineering projects which cut across the landscape of Edinburgh reshaped the topography of the city.

Much like a historic, urban cartilage, huge pieces of built infrastructure were created to span the gorges, valleys and chasms of the city. Over time, these were built up, within and around, and a new stratification began to emerge in the name of “improvement.”

Below is a visual exploration of the interesting vistas created through this stratified verticality.
