The Second New Town: An Exploration

Continuing the themes established in the rectilinear first new town, the expansion of the second New Town in the early 1800’s saw an expansion of urban form and in increase in the housing typologies used.

Increasingly complex and elaborate forms started to emerge, especially with the provision of open space in gated spaces used for residents alone.
