The Old Town: An Exploration

The urban plan of the Old Town of Edinburgh is still, mostly, based upon its winding medival footprint.

Despite major changes in many buildings (due to the great fire of 1824 for many, and the huge swathes of clearances which were in effect to create urban engineering works such as George IV Bridge), the old town is still a network of wynds and closes stretching down the hill from the Royal Mile.

A different blog post will explore this in more depth, however below is a photographic essay illustrating the Old Town at a human scale.
