The First New Town: An Exploration

The strict grid and block nature of James Craig’s original New Town of the late 1700’s was a groundbreaking piece of architectural and urban design at the time of construction.

The history of Craig’s plan will be discussed at great length elsewhere, it is with the experience of inhabiting this locale (much unchanged in terms of its urban footprint) today which this post will deal with.

An initial exploration of the area has been documented in a small photographic essay.
